Smith Farm Gardens is a historic countryside wedding venue stretched across 15 sprawling acres in Southern Connecticut. The estate is family-owned and operated and filled with all the charm of a quintessential New England experience. The classical architecture of the property remains intact. Correspondingly, the homestead is filled with of the era antiques that honor the farm’s 18th-century lineage.
Hosted in the crisp, kaleidoscope month of October, Megan and Daniel’s Smith Farm Gardens wedding was a glowing fall celebration. Beautiful, intimate, and filled with the warmth of the sun that touched down on the apple orchards, I began Megan & Daniel’s wedding day with getting ready coverage. The 18th-century homestead located on the property also serves as the venue’s getting-ready suite. Megan prepared for the day upstairs, while Daniel fastened his tie and cufflinks downstairs. The natural stream of light that flowed through the getting-ready suite provided a golden brilliance. So I began by working with Megan on bridal portraits.
Though they did not plan a first look for their wedding day, Megan and Daniel did include one pivotal moment. Private vows on the first floor of the fully furnished floor of the homestead. They read deeply emotional personal wedding vows to each other just moments before the start of their official wedding ceremony. I provided them with the space needed to enjoy this secluded moment of their wedding day. At the same time, I also captured the emotion and beauty of the words they shared. The lawn outside the homestead of Smith Farm Gardens served as the wedding ceremony space for Megan & Daniel’s vows. A string trio filled the air with the melodic sounds of instrumental music as Megan & Daniel were joined in marriage.

When planning the details of their day, Megan & Daniel’s main focus was on creating an intimate wedding experience that focused on connecting with their guests. In fact, the set up for their reception took place under a sailcloth tent on the grounds of Smith Farm Gardens. But it was the collective members of their families that put everything in place for the couple. This allowed Megan & Daniel to enjoy a stress-free experience while still maintaining the design vision they dreamed of.
This effortless feeling of enjoyment with ease rippled through every aspect of their wedding day. During the reception guests played lawn games and enjoyed gathering by the venue’s cozy firepit. Whimsically Tipsy was set up on the side of the tented reception and served vibrant libations with a side of flair from their 1974 VW Mobile Bar Bus.
As Megan and Daniel made their grand entrance, they immediately took to the dance floor for their first dance as husband and wife. Their guests then filled the reception with laughter as they took to the mic to share light-hearted stories about the newlyweds. The evening was complete when Megan and Daniel uncorked two bottles of champagne, letting the bubbly overflow the tower of awaiting champagne glasses. Each of these details along with every genuine, heartfelt moment can be seen through the images below.
