Newport, RI, is an exquisite location for engagement photos. Embodying the rich history of the Gilded Age, it is an exemplary scene in New England filled with 250 years of American historical architecture perched along the rocky cliffs of the sea. Once the summer playground to American aristocratic families such as the Astors & Vanderbilts, who spent their warm months escaping from the heat of New York City. Today, Newport, RI, is a beautiful location for locals to capture engagement photos, go for a Sunday drive, or explore the stories of the area’s past.
I met with Ashley and Kevin for their Newport, RI, engagement photos at sunset. This time of the day is replete with glowing light and douses everything it touches in the softest golden rays. But, it’s also a time of day that affords some privacy to your photography experience. The day is just drawing to a close,e and the air is still. There are no tourists to contend with or foot traffic filled with curious onlookers. It’s just you and your betrothed, celebrating the special moment of your engagement, in the lead-up to your wedding.
Contributing to the long-standing tradition of enjoying Newport as a place of quiet retreat, Ashley and Kevin also ventured to Newport from NY. They were enjoying a few days of being in the company of their family during the summer months. Which proved the perfect time to schedule their Newport, RI, engagement photos. When I met with them on the day of their session, we had just narrowly escaped a passing storm. But the passing storm only contributed to the ethereal glow over Bellevue Avenue. Our stroll along Bellevue brought us to the gates of the iconic Elms Mansion. Originally built in 1901, the inspiration for Elms Mansion was 18th-century French château architecture. We stopped at the iron gates for a few moments and used their fanciful scrollwork and design as the backdrop of a few of Ashley and Kevin’s engagement photos.
We continued our walk along Bellevue Avenue at a leisurely pace. All in all, we enjoyed the splendid weather, the grandiose sights before us, and the refreshing mist of the salty sea air. Once our journey down Bellevue was complete, we continued Ashley & Kevin’s Newport, RI engagement photos at Brenton Park State Park. Enjoying every moment of their session, Ashley and Kevin were so sweet and tender with each other.
They were also open to adventuring a little bit during their engagement photos. So I made the suggestion that we enjoy a true coastal experience in Newport, sans shoes. As the clouds rolled in again and the light danced like magic, we explored the rocky coastline synonymous with Newport, RI. We began to wrap their engagement photos just as another storm headed our way. I couldn’t have timed our session around the weather more perfectly (my colleagues SLOtography would agree). From the gates of the Elms Mansion to our time exploring the coastline, you can see every moment of Ashley and Kevin’s Newport, RI engagement photos below.
